I was thinking about how far we have come. This internet thing started on dial up. A welcome screen, some junk mail and chat rooms used to converse about video games, music, movies, weather and from time to time friends from school.
Rules set up on profiles that explained details about who you are. Easy things like name, sex, age, location. A few years would pass and digital pictures became a thing. That was all the personality you could come up with. It was known never to trust those things because it could easily be fabricated. That 18 year old girl was likely a 40 year old man! So you didn’t meet people on the internet you didn’t know.
Years would pass and the web cam would make it’s way into the home. Now we could hold entire chat rooms full of people who could prove they are who they say they are. Yet the danger was still who else is behind the camera? Could you meet this person in a safe place and it be just that person? What qualifies as a safe place? Perhaps some place with police, public, and protection.
Years would pass again and now we have strangers meeting for dates, taxis become users, Facebook defining every detail of our business, lifestyle, philosophy, and yes still entertainment. We build our lives now on the internet and treat real life like the hobby. It was a strange thing to do.
Years would pass now…and we have A.I. and all of that trust can go out the window again. You can’t beileve anything you see on this box. Not the music, art, movies, friendships and politics. Don’t beileve anything because it can all be once again fabrication!
